I recently wrote about “Inspiration of Desperation” – whereby we all work so well and focused when a deadline is approaching such as an examination the next day.
Talking of inspiration reminded me of the phrase “Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration”
This is a well known phrase that extols the benefits of hard word and effort. This quote came from the inventor Thomas Edison. When asked to explain further, he said:-
“I never did anything worth doing by accident, nor did any of my inventions come by accident. They came by work.”
It was Thomas Edison who tried and failed almost 10,000 times before succeeding with the electric bulb.
So the two phrases we have are:-
“Genius is one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration”
“Inspiration of desperation”
Combine the essence of the two phrases and we get:-
“Perspiration and Inspiration through Desperation”
So to succeed, you have to get on with things, take timely action and keep taking action. And if you fail, then keep trying, and review your strategy. Never give up.
Can you imagine the world today if Edison had given up on the electric bulb?!
