It is the last day of the year and as the world awaits 2010 and the beginning of a new decade, what adventures and new beginnings lie ahead of you?
Today is also blue moon day. Before you go outside to check out the colour of the full, the phrase “blue moon” just means that it is the second full moon of this month.
I am writing this post in Mumbai, India and I have just seen the full moon in its full glory – and it certainly didn’t look blue.
A while back I wrote about how a blue moon means its time for new beginnings.
A blue moon is usually defined as the second full moon to occur in a single calendar month. As the average interval between full moons is 29.5 days, whilst the length of an average month is about 30.5 days, it is rare for any given month to contain two full moons.
On average, there are only 41 months per century that will have two full months so there is a blue moon roughly once every two and a half years.
It will be another 30 years before we will get a Blue Moon on New Year’s eve. So what lies ahead of you over the next 30 years?
My initial intention was to write a long post about how to make the most of 2010 and give you a list of questions to ponder on. I will however save that for the future as it struck me that there is one thing above all that will really truly make 2010 your besat year ever.
What will you do in 2010 to find your true joy and happiness?!
If in the coming year, you can find a way of being happy within yourself, I can guarantee you that all other areas of your life will get sorted in the best way possible.
And then you will know that happiness is not something that happens once in a blue moon but it is something to have all the time.
In 2010, make it a mission to find your joy and banish your blues forever.
Happy New Year everyone.
Happy New Year to you Arvind, I hope you had a great one.
Finding your joy should always be a priority in life. I would also add helping others to find their joy is another great way to find your own and this is something that you doing and more.
Thanks Steven for your kind words and best wishes for 2010. I saw in the New Year with my family on our hotel roof top and saw all the fireworks going off around Mumbai.
It was certainly a joyous start to the New Year.
And as you say helping others find their joy is key to finding your own.
I’m finding happiness when I spend time with my babies these days, but I’ve thought long and hard about what would make me happy in 2010. I’ve always found joy in helping people and so I really want to make that a primary focus.
I think happiness can really be found in feeling like you have control over your life. Most of us feel like life is directing us most of the time. If we consciously plan and put into practice our plan, we can feel like conscious creators and let go our feelings of helplessness.
Many thanks and Happy Blue Moon to you,
– Charley
Thanks Charley for your kind wishes and update re your babies. As Steven says above, helping others finding their joy is a sure way of finding your own joy, so you are certainly on the right track.
Also overcoming this feeling of helplessness and being more if charge of your own destiny is sure to bring you a greater sense of concsiously creating your own life. Good luck with your blogging and with the babies – before you know it they will be a year old!
Happy New Year Arvind!
How can you make the most of 2010? I think that you should live and feel every moment of your life and stop killing your time. It is not the end-goal that brings us the most pleasure and happiness but the road that takes us there.
Have great 525,600 minutes of happiness in 2010!
Thanks Anastasiya!
I must say that when you break down the year into so many minutes it seems more urgent and important that we make the most of each minute.
Let us all enjoy the road that will help us make the most of 2010. It is really key that we stop killing the time and live & feel every moment of our lives.
Happy new year Arvind, loved your article on the blue moon, I found out what it all meant on NYE for the first time. It really is a new beginning for us all and I think that my quote for this new decade to help me find joy will be “life is delicious, bite off more than you can chew!” Enjoy your time in India, much love and light to you and the kids at the Nirvana school too. fleur xo
Happy New Year to you too Fleur – I trust that you are bearing up to the HOT weather down under in Australia!
Do give some thought to us in UK – as you probably know, we are experiencing record snow and low temperatures here.
I am glad you now know what it means when we say “once in a blue moon” – as you say it really is a new beginning for all of us.
I just love your quote for the new decade – “life is delicious, bite off more than you can chew!” I am going to apply it too in my life.
Finally I had an amazing time in India, thoguh I was not visiting the kids at Nirvana School on this trip
(Anyone not aware of Nirvana School, please check out https://www.NirvanaSchool.Org)
Happy new year to you too Arvind. I experienced the blue moon here at a cold but clear night in snowy Germany. Indeed focussing on true joy and happiness should be the underlying theme for all our searches and goals.
May all your goals lead to true joy and happiness.
Have a phenomenal 2010.
Thanks Patrick for your good wishes.
I experienced the “Blue Moon” in Mumbai – and also saw in 2010 at the same time from the hotel rooftop.
Let’s make it a phenomenal 2010, one full of true joy and happiness.
Hey Arvind,
Hope you’re having a truly amazing trip! Enjoy every second! 🙂
Thanks Amit – I had a truly amazing trip, but alas it was all over far too quickly!
But time now to make it a phenomenal 2010:-)
Wow I never knew that that there were blue moons! Thanks. I hope that in 2010 I’ll enjoy every moment with optimism and face obstacles head on instead of avoiding/denying/shying away from them.
Good luck Michelle!
I wish you the best for 2010 – with an attiude of enjoying every moment, how can you possible go wrong?!
