A week ago, Anita Roddick passed away and left a massive void in the world of compassionate and go getting people.
I had the privilege of hearing her talk twice in the last 12 months, and both times her commitment and passion for what she does shone through. She took no prisoners and said what she meant without mincing any words.
Anita Roddick devoted her life to ethical causes, and almost single handedly dragged the ecological movement into the mainstream. She made saving the planet fashionable and an issue that is now foremost in the minds of most sensible people.
Her last few months were tough for her as she had a debalitating disease which made her acutely aware of her own and everyone else’s mortality. This is what she said:-
“What I can say is that having the disease means that I live with a sharp sense of my own mortality, which in many ways makes life more vivid and immediate,”
And she further added words that can be a lasting reminder for all of us to heed and apply in our lives:-
“It makes me even more determined to just get on with things.”
Such was Anita Roddick’s characteristic determination and unending optimism.
So the lesson for us all, apart from to continue her work and save our planet, is also to make the most of what we have and the limited time on this planet.
It really is time to make things happen.
So ask your self these 3 questions:-
1. What major thing will you no longer stop yourself from doing?
2. What one thing must you do in your lifetime?
3. When will you begin?
It is indeed time to make things happen.
Sorry to hear of the loss…But grateful for the words you share. Those 3 questions at the end are straightforward, to the point, with no B.S to get lost in..Good questions to ask oneself…we’ll myself anyway 🙂
Thanks for this Arvind 🙂
When you have ‘work’ to do, depending on how ready you are, you can see signs/reminders to carry it out ‘this work’ in anything & everything!
The text below reminds me of how I need to minimise my unnecessary thoughts, remember that karma plays a part in everything & that I cannot prevent my loved ones being hurt. There is often a need to back off, let things happen, but be there after perhaps.
We do indeed have a limited time & Jainism states that we can only attain Moksha or get on the path to it whilst in the human form. So what am I waiting for? I need to focus more on my spiritual well-being. This will help me now and in future births.
The text that inspired these thoughts: –

Thanks Heena for your valued input and for sharing what Jainism has to say about attaining Moksha.
As you say, it really is time to focus on your spiritual well-being. Good luck!
